SOLIDWORKS PCB Service Data Migration

On July 28, 2021, Dassault Systems announced that it is discontinuing the SOLIDWORKS PCB product.

The following procedure can be used in situations where data from an existing SOLIDWORKS PCB Services needs to be migrated to a new SOLIDWORKS PCB Services installation. This procedure can also be used for backing up data (and restoring it if required).

To back up SOLIDWORKS PCB Services data:

  • 1. In the SOLIDWORKS? PCB application, go to 'File'> 'Sign out from SOLIDWORKS PCB Services'
  • 2. Close the SOLIDWORKS PCB application
  • 3. In the SOLIDWORKS application, go to the SOLIDWORKS PCB Add-in click on the button on the top right of the panel > 'Log Out'
  • 4. Close the SOLIDWORKS application
  • 5. Stop all Internet Information Services (IIS) application pools:
               • Run' cmd.exe' as administrator
               • Type "iisreset/ stop" and press 'Enter'

  • 6. Make a copy of the root 'SOLIDWORKS PCB Services' folder. This folder contains the Firebird database ('DXPServer.dat') and data files ('Revisions') folder in the locations chosen during the installation. In the default installation, the location is 'C:ProgramDataSOLIDWORKSSOLIDWORKS PCB Services'
  • 7. Start the IIS application pools:
               • Run 'cmd.exe' as administrator
               • Type "iisreset/ start" and press 'Enter'

When you copy the entire 'SOLIDWORKS PCB Services' folder, you will also back up repositories, the search index, and the user settings.

To restore the backup data for SOLIDWORKS PCB Services:

  • 1. In the SOLIDWORKS? PCB application, go to 'File'> 'Sign out from SOLIDWORKS PCB Services'
  • 2. Close the SOLIDWORKS PCB application
  • 3. In the SOLIDWORKS application, go to the SOLIDWORKS PCB Add-in click on the button on the top right of the panel > 'Log Out'
  • 4. Close the SOLIDWORKS application
  • 5. Stop all Internet Information Services (IIS) application pools:
               • Run 'cmd.exe' as administrator
               • Type "iisreset/ stop" and press 'Enter'

  • 6. Replace the 'SOLIDWORKS PCB Services' folder with the stored copy
  • 7. Start the IIS application pools:
               • Run 'cmd.exe' as administrator
               • Type "iisreset/ start" and press 'Enter'
