Vault Offerings by Altium
Altium has developed several products over the years for file management. You may have heard of Vault, Concord Pro, Altium 365, and Nexus. They all provided a revision-controlled environment for your component, template, and project files.
As of this writing (2023), Altium Inc. offers three versions of Altium 365 to encompass the users' needs: Standard, Pro, and Enterprise. All versions of Altium 365 are cloud-based and are managed and maintained by Altium. Enterprise is also available as an on-premises solution. Vault, Nexus, and Concord Pro are no longer available from Altium. To learn more about the evolution of Altium, please see our page titled "The Altium 365 Evolution."
Altium 365 and its Evolution
Vault - This was the original file management offering from Altium in 2011. This product is installed on a company's server. Altium Designer is used to interface with Vault.
Status: Though it is no longer sold under this name, its base code is used for all the current products offered. With the release of the Altium Designer 2018, Altium changed the name from "Vault" to "Nexus."
Nexus - Nexus was the rebrand of the Vault server. Altium Inc. also introduced the "Nexus Client" to act as the interface to the Nexus server. The Nexus Client is Altium Designer, consisting of the same code base and GUI interfaces. Several library features were removed from the client's menu to prevent users from creating libraries outside the Nexus environment.
Status: Nexus still exists in a form different from its initial Vault rebranding. Nexus is hosted on the cloud and is offered as a customized solution for workflow. The Nexus client is still required to interface with the cloud's Nexus server.
Concord Pro - Concord Pro, in a sense, is the re-re-branding of the Vault. It contains all the features of Nexus except for the workflow. This product is installed on a company's server. Altium Designer is used to interface with Concord Pro.
Status: It is a current offering of Altium for customers who want the Concord Pro server to reside on their network.
Altium 365 - Altium 365 is the cloud-based version of Concord Pro. Customers who purchase Altium Designer and a subscription can access the standard Altium 365. The Pro version provides revision, life cycle, version control, and MCAD/ECAD collaboration. The codebase and GUI interface of Altium 365 is the same as Concord Pro.
Status: It is a current offering of Altium for customers who want the server to reside on the cloud. This allows for easier collaboration with design teams that are geographically separated, contractors, and management.
